Extension of Appointment of Justice Quentin Loh as High Court Judge

The President of the Republic of Singapore, in accordance with Article 95 (2) of the Constitution, has extended the appointment of Justice Quentin Loh Sze-On (罗赐安) for a further three years commencing 25 December 2017.

2. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on 4 January 2018 at the Istana.

3. Justice Loh, whose current term as a High Court Judge expires on 24 December 2017 was first appointed to the Bench as a Judicial Commissioner on 1 September 2009 and elevated to a High Court Judge on 1 June 2010. Justice Loh specialises in all aspects of construction, commercial litigation and arbitration (domestic and international). He also hears public law matters for which having both experience and sound judgment would be critical.

4. In addition, Justice Loh is the Judge in charge of the Singapore International Commercial Court (“SICC”) and chairs the SICC Development Committee and the SICC Rules Committee.

5. He also chairs the Personal Injury (Claims Assessment) Review Committee which recommends appropriate action for the Courts in their assessment of damages in claims for personal injury and death. Yet another committee chaired by Justice Loh is the Professional Training of Lawyers which considers how the professional training regime for lawyers in Singapore can be improved.

6. With the reappointment of Justice Loh, the Supreme Court will have a total of 21 Judges (including the Chief Justice), four Judicial Commissioners, five Senior Judges and 12 International Judges.
